Jennie, Cath & the headteacher of the Edgar Wood Academy

A generation is leaving school unaware of the career paths that creative industries are desperate for.

Recent data from the Creative Industries Council shows a staggering 57% collapse in creative course uptake in English Further Education over the last decade, with similar drops across the UK.

Our whole belief system at Notorious is that the good stuff is found in the blend of science and creative disciplines. Data without intent is not as smart as it looks. And if the school leaver market doesn’t give us what we need, then we have a problem.

But, never ones to naval gaze, we are properly thrilled to share that we are participating in Saatchi & Saatchi‘s ‘Upriser’ programme.

Upriser brings creative industries together with UK secondary schools, and we’ve found our perfect match. The Edgar Wood Academy, in Middleton. Their ethos of curiosity, relentless questioning, and openness to new views aligns precisely with how we aim to deliver Notorious work.

Yesterday, our Digital Partner Jennie Geagea (who brings her wealth of experience teaching digital skills to the next generation) and our Chief Notorious Officer Catherine Offord (a media powerhouse with 20+ years of industry leadership) spent the day learning in the Academy’s world, officially launching this partnership.

As Cath aptly put it: “We absolutely loved it! Edgar Wood Academy already feels like a strong match, and we’re beyond excited about the potential to help young people find a valuable creative career path.”

We’re big believers in the Upriser programme at Notorious and would urge everyone who can get involved to do so. Find out more here.
